Potential for using renewable energy sources

Renewable energy sources can either produce heat from heat pumps, solar thermal panels or biomass boilers or electricity from photo voltaic panels or wind turbine generators.

The advantages of renewable sources are that they are wide spread, abundant and inexhaustible and can be attached to or incorporated in the fabric of most homes. They are characterised by a low running cost because their energy is derived from sunlight. For example, heat pumps have a typical efficiency of 3.5 - 4.0 (heat out/energy in) as they only concentrate the heat, not produce it. Heat pumps have the lowest running cost of any heating system.

Renewable Energy Source survey form

The survey form will enable you to decide the potential for installing renewable energy sources in your home. Once it is complete, you should be able to identify which source may be suitable for your home. You should then look at the relevant KITH module for further information. After that you should consult an energy adviser, installer or use your utility helpline for further information. Use the link below to open the survey form.
